How do I validate my degree in the United States?

If you are Brazilian and want to work in the United States, you know that an international university degree needs to be validated so that you can take your American class license and work in American territory.

Just as it works in Brazil, the revalidation of diplomas needs to be done in universities that have equivalence of credits taken in Brazil or abroad. There are differences between the education systems in Brazil and the United States, and you may need to take additional credits to validate your Brazilian degree in the United States.

Psychology

Clinical psychology in the United States, for example, can only be practiced by those who hold a doctorate (postgraduate stricto sensu) in clinical psychology. If a psychologist has only a graduate degree in psychology, or a master's degree and doctorate in areas of psychology other than clinical psychology, he or she cannot obtain a clinical psychologist license in the United States.

If you are a Brazilian psychologist and have a doctorate in clinical psychology, validating your degree in the United States and obtaining a Green Card can be an excellent career move, given that the average annual salary of a clinical psychologist in the United States is 99 thousand dollars according to the US Census Bureau.

To validate your psychology degree in the United States, you need to find a university accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). This is the largest trade association for psychologists in the US. But to get your license to practice as a clinical psychologist, you will need to contact the State Board of Psychology in the US state where you want to work.

In Florida, a state much loved by Brazilians, the Board of Psychology requires proof of a doctoral degree from an APA-accredited institution or the equivalent from an educational institution abroad; in addition to proof of the applicant's pre-doctoral studies.

Medicine

The medical career is certainly among the most lucrative for professionals who want a dollar career in the United States. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the average salary of a cardiologist is about 422,000 dollars a year, and the other specialties are not far behind: the average salary of all specialties is 238,000 dollars a year.

To validate your medical degree in the United States, you will need to pass the United States Medical Licensing Examination(USMLE), which is administered by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) and the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME).

This exam has three stages (Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3), in which the competencies of basic concepts of medical practice, and clinical and theoretical competencies for practicing medicine without supervision of other physicians are evaluated.

Dentistry

Brazilian dentists are recognized for their high qualification: the Brazilian universities USP, UNESP and Unicamp are among the top 5 dental schools in the world according to the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). The remuneration for dentists in America is also attractive: 172,000 dollars per year according to the US Census Bureau of Labor Statistics.

To practice as a dentist in the United States, you must pass the exams required by the State Board of Dentistry in the state where you wish to work.

Each state has different requirements, but it is certain that you will need to prove your English proficiency by taking the TOEFL exam, and your professional competence by taking the Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE). This exam is required for any professional who intends to practice dentistry in the US, including American students.

Some states, such as Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, California, and Utah, also require passing the American Board of Dental Examiners (ADEX) exam to obtain a professional license.

Your profession is on the rise in the United States!

If you have the necessary qualifications to work as a doctor, dentist or psychologist in the United States, there is a shortage of these professionals in the US! This places great value on your expertise as a professional.

Don't forget that you will only be able to work professionally in the USA once you have obtained your professional license in the country and obtained a Green Card (necessary for any professional who wishes to work and reside permanently in the United States).
