If you are looking for security, quality of life, and a good environment for your children to grow up in, you have certainly thought about moving to the United States. And you are not alone, because the United States has the largest population of Brazilian immigrants in the world.
A continental country with diverse lifestyles, the USA has many great cities to live in. However, some cities are more friendly to Brazilians than others. In this text, we will highlight some of the cities most chosen by Brazilians to live in the USA.
Miami, Florida
Miami is probably the most loved city by Brazilians in the United States!
Known for its sunny beaches, and a tropical climate like ours, it is a city with a large Brazilian community.
Many Brazilians who go to Miami on vacation end up falling in love with the city, and decide to live there. Not only Miami, but several regions in Florida have a large presence of Latinos, which makes the city and its surroundings a very welcoming destination for Brazilians.
Orlando and other cities in Florida
As you may already know, the state of Florida has the largest concentration of Brazilian immigrants in the United States. Orlando is famous for its theme parks (Disney World and Universal Studios) and shopping, making it one of the favorite destinations for frequent travelers to the United States, where they can enjoy the best entertainment and shopping in the United States.
Other lesser known cities like Loch Lomond, Mexico Beach, and Deerfield Beach are also favorite destinations for Brazilians in the state, also because of the development, tropical climate, easy access to services, jobs, and a vibrant Latino community.
Boston, Massachusetts
Harvard, MIT, and many Brazilians
Boston is a city known for its renowned universities, such as Harvard and MIT. And because it is a college town, it has a vibrant cultural and educational scene. The Boston metropolitan area has a large Brazilian community, and the Brazilian Consulate in Boston estimates that there were more than 350,000 Brazilians living in the state of Massachusetts in 2020.
Besides the educational opportunities, the city has many entertainment options such as bars, stores, restaurants, and night clubs. Boston's cold climate may be an obstacle for Brazilians, but this historic, cosmopolitan and multicultural city always attracts immigrants of many nationalities.
Los Angeles and San Francisco, California
California is the third favorite state for Brazilian immigrants in the USA, only behind Florida and Massachusetts. And, like Florida, it also has a tropical climate, which is always pleasant for Brazilians when compared to the high winters in other American regions.
Sanctuary Cities
Los Angeles, as well as San Francisco and Sacramento, is considered one of the so-called sanctuary cities for immigrants in the United States - meaning that these locations are traditionally welcoming to immigrants, especially Latinos. According to data from the Brazilian Consulate in the US in 2020, more than 120,000 Brazilians lived in Los Angeles, and approximately 65,000 in San Francisco.
Houston, Texas
Houston is the fourth most populous city in the United States and the most populous city in the state of Texas. As a metropolis, it is very diverse, with a strong economy and many job opportunities.
Oil and gas industries
Renowned for its energy, oil and gas industry, the city is home to approximately 90,000 Brazilians, offering residents many entertainment options, such as bars, restaurants, and sporting events. The hot and humid climate is also reminiscent of the climate in Brazil, as is the case in Florida and California.
Other Locations
New York and Atlanta also have a large concentration of Brazilian immigrants, being home to more than 450,000 and 110,000 Brazilians, respectively.
It doesn't matter if you fell in love with Miami, New York, or Boston. The United States has many cities, with the most varied cultures and options for you to work and enjoy alone or with your family.
And, more and more Brazilians are seeking permanent residency in America, either for the security that the country offers, or for the political and economic instability always present in Brazil. The flow of Brazilian immigrants in the US has exceeded 50,000 people per year since 2014, and this number is increasing all the time.
