What professions give you a green card?

With many Brazilian professionals seeking salaries in dollars and housing in stable countries, the phenomenon of the flight of talents from Brazil to foreign countries tends to intensify more and more.

According to official Itamaraty data, the flow of Brazilians abroad is growing at a rapid pace: more than 4 million Brazilians now live outside of Brazil, a number that in 2016 was approximately 3 million.

And the largest Brazilian community abroad is located in the United States, concentrating almost 2 million people, of which 500 thousand live in the New York metropolitan area, and 475 thousand in the Miami metropolitan area.

Whether you are looking for better salaries, security for your family, or both: the United States is an excellent choice for qualified professionals.

This flight of talent to the USA is due to the ease with which qualified professionals can get their respective green cards.

The American government values qualified professionals from strategic sectors who can contribute to financial, academic, technological, social, and environmental progress for the country.

And this translates into the granting of EB-1 and EB-2 NIW visas for those professionals that immigration deems fit to promote the improvement and progress of the United States.

In the EB-1 and EB-2 NIW(National Interest Waiver) visa categories, the U.S. government waives the requirement of a previous offer of employment in the U.S. for eligible professionals. And this makes it much easier for talent to migrate to America.

Your profession can be your passport to the United States!

If you prove that you have exceptional skills with a degree of expertise beyond what is found on the market in your field of work, or have advanced degree skills, with higher education and at least 5 years of proven experience, and prove that your field of work is of U.S. national interest, you are eligible to apply for a U.S. EB-2 visa.

For the EB-1 visa, you need to prove the same requirements, and also that you have extraordinary skills in your field, via national and international awards and recognition of your skills.

Most skilled professionals fall into the EB-2 category. It is important to note that even if you want to invest in the United States and work in a different field in the U.S., it is possible to get an EB-2 visa if you are eligible. This way you can achieve a more advantageous migration to the US, saving the capital required to obtain an investor visa (E-5).

What careers are on the rise in the USA?

Medicine

Medicine is certainly one of the best careers for getting a green card. According to data from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), by 2034 there will be a shortage of at least 17,000 primary care physicians, 15,000 surgeons, and 10,000 physicians in other specialties. This shortage is due to the aging of the American population and the long time it takes to train new doctors.

Psychology

If you are a clinical psychologist in Brazil and hold stricto sensu post-graduate degrees (masters and doctorate) in the clinical area, the American market is a great opportunity for you. This is because the supply of clinical psychologists in the United States is low given the training requirements for this professional. A psychologist usually needs to have a doctorate in clinical psychology to obtain a clinical license in most states in the United States. And, because this supply of professionals is low, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services estimates that by 2025 the shortage of clinical psychologists in the U.S. will reach 238,000 professionals.

Dentistry

Dentistry is another American sector with a shortage of professionals: according to the ADA (American Dental Association), there are approximately 200,000 dentists in the United States - resulting in a number of 60.77 dentists per 100,000 inhabitants in the country. By way of comparison, there are almost twice as many dentists working in Brazil (395,000). Brazilian dentists are also valued abroad for the quality of their education: USP, UNESP, and UNICAMP are among the 5 best dental schools in the world, according to the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR).

Aviation

Aviation is a strategic sector and an area of national interest for the United States. And according to the Regional Airline Association (RAA), which represents regional airlines, over the next 15 years more than 50% of American pilots will be out of work, given the mandatory retirement of the category at age 65 in the USA. So there is plenty of room for new commercial pilots on American territory.
