Electrical Engineering in the USA: How it works

Brazil was the ninth country to receive the most green cards in 2022, according to the US government: more than 23,000 Brazilians achieved the American dream last year, a record for the country.

Concerned about Brazil's economic stability and the Brazilian job market, or looking for a stable country to live in with their families, these new immigrants have a different professional profile. They are experienced professionals who, instead of abandoning their careers for the American dream, use their CVs to obtain their respective Green Cards.

If you are an electrical engineer and have more than five years' professional experience, you should know that there is a shortage of engineers in the United States, and your field of work could be the gateway to your green card.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the shortage of engineers in the United States will reach 6 million professionals by the year 2026. And thanks to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) sanctioned by the Biden administration in 2021, the engineering market is very hot in the United States.

What is the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act?

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) was signed into law by the Biden administration in 2021 and provides for more than 1 trillion dollars of federal investment in infrastructure projects across the country. Railroads, bridges, roads, dams, ports, transit and energy systems will be revitalized and built across the country.

In the energy sector alone, 73 billion dollars will be earmarked for rebuilding the US energy infrastructure.

And you, who are an engineer in Brazil, can benefit from the implementation of the plan and the rising demand for engineers.

How do I validate my engineering degree in the USA?

To validate your engineering degree in the United States, you need to take the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) exams. Remember that in order to obtain authorization to work and reside legally in the United States, you must first obtain your Green Card from the American government.

How to get your Green Card using your CV

The field of engineering is considered one of the most important for the development of the United States, and this increases the chances of an engineer obtaining a Green Card using their professional experience.

Because the field of science is one of those that enables a professional to be eligible for an EB-2 visa. The biggest advantage of being eligible for this visa category is that a job offer in the United States is not required for eligibility.

EB-2 Visa: How to get a Green Card.

If you are an electrical engineer and have five years or more experience in your profession, and exceptional or extraordinary skills in your field, you may be eligible for a Green Card under the EB-2 category.

And if you are approved for a green card under this visa category, your spouse and children under 21 will also be granted their respective green cards.

All this without you needing a previous job offer in the United States.
