If you are a doctor in Brazil and want to immigrate to the United States and practice medicine there, the state of Tennessee has just made it easier for doctors to migrate to the state.

This is due to the enactment of Tennessee Senate Bill 1451, which eases the entry of foreign doctors into the state as of July 2024.

How does it work?

As of July 2024, only 3 years of residency and 2 years of professional medical practice within 5 years will be required to obtain a temporary license and work in institutions accredited by the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education). The candidate will also have to have a job offer and the ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) certificate.

At the end of two years practicing with a Provisional Temporary License, the physician may convert this license into a FULL UNRESTRICTED LICENSE (permanent license to practice anywhere in Tennessee).

It's worth remembering that the new Tennessee state law concerns the practice of medicine, and does not give you the right to obtain a green card. 

To obtain a Green Card, you will need to fulfill all the requirements of the US government and file a Green Card application with US immigration.

If you are a medical specialist and want to immigrate to the United States, you can use your professional experience to obtain a green card through an EB-2 visa.

If you are a doctor with more than five years' experience in your specialty, you may be eligible for a Green Card!

And, if you are approved for a Green Card under this visa category, your spouse and children under the age of 21 will also be granted their respective Green Cards.

All this without you needing a previous job offer in the United States.
