College in the USA: How to get a Green Card

If you want to go to college in the United States or are planning your children's college in the United States, you surely know that there are many costs associated with this decision.

And having a green card can be an investment for you and your family, not just another cost of this process. This is because most private universities charge different fees for U.S. citizens and permanent residents and for foreign nationals, making it very advantageous for your entire family to have your respective green cards.

F-1 visa

Generally, students who pass the selection process at American universities are granted F-1 visas. This type of visa is intended for foreigners who are full-time students at universities, seminaries, conservatories, colleges, elementary schools and other institutions or language training programs in the United States. Please note that this visa is not a green card.

In order for a university student to obtain a student visa, he/she must prove to US immigration that he/she has enrolled in the university where he/she will be studying and provide all the necessary documentation so that his/her visa application can be analyzed and, if everything is correct, approved.

A student visa is relatively uncomplicated, but at the same time the student will not be able to carry out any type of work in the United States that is divergent from their academic activities, and the termination of their studies will also lead to the termination of their authorization to stay in American territory.

Therefore, studying at an American university does not guarantee that this student will be able to hold a Green Card in the future, nor does it entitle this student to work in the United States. Most likely, at the end of university, this student will have to return to his/her country of origin if he/she does not obtain a visa extension or a change of category on his/her American visa.

But if that student has a green card, they can continue to live and work in the US after finishing university.

Green Card: an investment in your family

Many US private universities charge higher admission and student credit fees for international and non-resident (non-green card) students.

The University of Michigan, for example, charges $33,555 in costs for an in-state resident undergraduate student for 1 academic year, and $72,153 for the same period for a non-resident student. An additional $37,000 per year, which in 4 years corresponds to approximately 700,000 reais

Having a Green Card becomes even more advantageous if you have 2 children or more who will study in the United States, as this saving will be multiplied.

EB-2 visa

If you are a professional who has a degree, more than five years of professional practice, exceptional skills, and can prove that your profession is in an area of national interest to the United States, you may be eligible for a green card in the EB-2 category.

And in this visa category, if you are approved, your spouse and children under 21 will also be granted their respective Green Cards.

If you are eligible for a Green Card in the EB-2 category, this is an excellent alternative for you who want to secure a stable future for your family in the United States and still save on your children's studies at American universities.

Invest in your family. Invest in a Green Card.

The certainty of a stable and peaceful future in America for your family is priceless.

And TS Immigration can help you make this transition to America as advantageous as possible for your whole family.
